Structured Literacy
We teach following the Science of Reading and use structured literacy instruction. Structured Literacy is explicit, systematic, diagnostic, and cumulative. Our intruction includes hands-on learning methods, such as:
- Moving tiles into sound boxes as words are analyzed
- Using hand gestures to support memory for associations
- Building words with letter tiles
- Assembling sentences with words on cards
- Color-coding sentences in paragraphs
Unique Abilities and Needs
We provide specialized reading instruction for students with disabilities and learning differences. We have extensive training and experience in working with students with ADHD, dyslexia, and other challenges.
Phonics Instruction
Phonics instruction teaches children the relationships between the letters (graphemes) of written language and the individual sounds (phonemes) of spoken language. It teaches children to use these relationships to read and write words.
Phonological and Phonemic Awareness
Phonological awareness is the ability to recognize and manipulate the spoken parts of words, including syllables, onset–rime, and phonemes. Phonemic awareness is the ability to identify and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. Both are key skills in getting kids ready to read.
Reading Comprehension
Effective comprehension instruction is instruction that helps students to become independent, strategic, and metacognitive readers who are able to develop, control, and use a variety of comprehension strategies to ensure that they understand what they read.
